Good Body Mechanics is Important

The American Heritage Medical Dictionary defines Body Mechanics as the application of kinesiology to the use of proper body movement in daily activities, to the prevention and correction of problems associated with posture, and to the enhancement of coordination and endurance.

Using good body mechanics can help improve your posture and save your spine from serious injury. Good posture generally means the spine is in a ‘neutral’ or ‘resting’ position. Good body mechanics involve moving and positioning your body in such a way as to promote healing and to prevent back or neck injury.  To be effective, good body mechanics need to be practiced regularly during all activities including working, resting, and exercise.

Staying physically fit and exercising regularly will help with maintaining good body mechanics.  Always try to keep your body balanced and in an aligned position.  Make sure to avoid lifting heavy objects and moving your body in irregular positions. The balance of the body and mind leads to improved performance, health and well being.  So the next time you are getting ready to lift a heavy box or go on a run just remember to practice maintaining good posture and body movement.
